Not long after arrival Vida hurried inside to find me, announcing with childlike wonder, "COME OUTSIDE! There is a giant group gathered around a giant slug!" I grabbed my camera and headed for the backyard ready to capture the story of the year.
And there it was!!! A very big, very interesting slug! Headed for a clump of plants.
We excitedly examined the slime covered wood chip trail he left as a record of his travels.
Several children found a few smaller slugs gorging on a fallen pear nearby.
And the toddlers enjoyed looking at our slug friend too.
And the children drew the slug and told stories about the slug...what he likes to eat (carrots, broccoli, apples, pears, plums, grapes, blueberries and most of all dirt) and how much he misses his family and why the slug doesn't have legs and more.
All and all a very exciting day!

And after some enthusiastic conversation and observation we decided to create a mini habitat and bring our slug pal into the studio for the day to investigate him in greater detail.
