outdoor explorations

"Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts."---- Rachel Carson
The back yard is ripe with natural beauty and invitations for sensory engagement and exploration.
The river is babbling water over smooth stones, filling the back yard with the music of running water.
Our tomato vines are gifting us with ripe red treats and children are picking them with teachers and sampling the fruit with friends.
The grape vines are bursting with fruit, we await one cold night to sweeten them up and then the harvesting will begin.
Giant sunflowers bow heavy heads over the garden.  Hungry birds and squirrels eagerly await the harvest.  We plan to carry them in doors, however, before our winged and furry friends feast on them, to be studied and enjoyed by the children.  The studio has already commandeered one for our drawing table.  The seed patterns and color variations are beautiful and are already provoking some wonderful creativity.

What are you discovering in your own backyard?
